Find an Attorney Specializing in Energy

How to Select An Energy Attorney

The process can get quite complicated and there are a lot of laws governing this process, so it is vitally important that a person has a good and very knowledgeable attorney. In our discussion today, we will give you some tips on how to find a good Energy attorney.

Tip #1 Find An Attorney in your State

Energy attorneys vary from state to state. For this reason alone it is very important for you to look for an attorney that lives in the state that you live in or in the state that you are going to file. If you are now living in a different state than the state that you are going to file in, then you want to find an attorney in that state.

Tip #2 Make A list

Start a list of prospective attorneys. You can find an Energy attorney from several different resources and we will discuss the different resources, but it is important to start a list.

Tip #3 Start off with Personal References

If you are getting ready to go through this process, talk to your family and friends and see if they might be able to recommend a reputable Energy. You want to make sure that they understand that it is not just any attorney. You must let them know that you are specifically looking for an attorney in Energy Law.

Tip #4 Resources for Energy Attorneys

Do your due diligence by doing a search for Energy in your state and your city. If you find an attorney that you are interested in, look for testimonials from other clients. You also want to look for information about the law firm that the attorney is associated with.

You can contact the various bar associations, both state and local in your search for a good Energy. You can get recommendations from other attorneys or even the person that prepares your taxes. By this time you should have a list of names with their phone numbers. Now is the time for you to start contacting the attorneys so that you can start narrowing down your list.

Tip #5 Contact Your List of Names

The first thing that you should do to narrow your list down is to call each attorney that you are interested in talking to. Once you have the list of who you want to talk to there are some questions that you need to get answers from. The list is included below:

What Energy experience do you have?

How many Energy cases have you litigated?

Do you have any Energy  certifications or extra training?

How many cases do you usually handle on a monthly basis?

How many Energy cases are personal vs. business cases?

Will you be handling my case or will you have an assistant handle the case?

If an assistant is working on my case, will I be able to talk with that person?

How does the Energy process work?

Does the attorney offer free consultations?

You may be wondering what to look for when getting the answers to these questions. Remember that you want someone who is experienced, has handled a lot of cases and is comfortable and familiar with the Energy and processes. You want to be comfortable with the attorney and want someone who is personable and can give you the answers that you are looking for.

You can get your answers over the phone, but make sure that you also meet the prospective attorney in person before you sign anything or agree to anything. You want to make sure that there is a rapport between you and the attorney as well as anyone else in the law firm that you will be dealing with.

Tip #6 Get Everything in Written Form

Make sure that everything that you have discussed is written down. Get a written copy of all of the fees, policies and procedures. If you are not sure of a certain fee, make sure that you ask.

Tip #7 Stay in Contact With Your Attorney

Once you have hired your attorney, stay in touch with him. Remember that he is working for you, and is handling some very important business for you so you want to always stay in touch so that you know what is going on with your case. This same attorney may also work with you in an advising capacity as he can help you as you complete your Energy case.

In our discussion, we have offered several tips that will help you as you learn how to select an attorney for your Energy needs. Be sure not to rush into the hiring of an attorney and that you take time to evaluate the answers to your questions.
